  • BECOME A VOLUNTEER:

You probably live here - at least in part - because you value and are interested in our community's lively history. Volunteers are the foundation of our organization and several projects are always underway behind the scenes. Volunteering with the Long Valley Preservation Society provides an array of opportunities to get connected to those working to preserve our cultural heritage. There are few things more enjoyable than exercising your talents! If you have some time to share, we can promise you great opportunities to learn and practice your skills in the company of wonderful people. Here are some opportunities that are currently available.

Museum: The permanent museum located in Roseberry, Idaho was established in 1973, with the relocation of the historic Methodist-Episcopal Church back to its original location in the Roseberry Townsite. Today the museum consists of 22 buildings in various states of reconstruction. Some are original to Roseberry, but most are historic buildings saved from destruction and moved here from other parts of the valley. The goal of the museum is the preservation of buildings and artifacts which reflect the history and culture of the area in a meaningful setting, and the facilitation of other arts and humanities activities. Regularly scheduled hours and special event museum staffing is required May through September.

Research and Archiving: Every Tuesday, from May to October, Accessionists are at work in the Nell Tobias Research Center. Members do research and accept possession of items brought in and donated by the public. Volunteers assist historians with research inquiries, and inquiries of family heritage are managed here as well.

Work Parties: The continuing maintenance and restoration of our historic buildings is an important outreach that requires continued community involvement. Many local craftsmen have stepped forward with their services to assist. As well, many individuals without building skills have come on board to learn about the history of our area and help with its preservation. Restoration work parties can include small building projects or larger clean up or maintenance projects.

Docents: During each school year, LVPS hosts docent led school tours to the museum complex. Schoolchildren from the age of 9-16 have the opportunity to see and experience the history found on this complex. Additionally, special docent led tours for adult groups are available by request.

Special Events: Every year LVPS hosts special events like the Arts and Crafts Fair, Labor Day Ice Cream Social, and the Wednesday Night Concert Series. Interesting opportunities await willing volunteers.

Community Outreach: LVPS works with a variety of community organizations, including Rotary Clubs, Lions, Elder Hostel, McCall Arts and Humanities Council and the Finnish Ladies Aid Society. Opportunities to represent LVPS at community functions are also available. If you would like to join our volunteers, please contact Volunteer Coordinator at (208)325-8626
