Be a Volunteer

You probably live here - at least in part - because you value and are interested in our community's lively history. Volunteers are the foundation of the Museum at Roseberry and several projects are always underway behind the scenes. There are few things more enjoyable than exercising your talents in a friendly and beautiful setting! If you have some time to share, we can promise you great opportunities to learn and practice your skills in the company of wonderful people. Here are some of our current volunteer opportunities:

Museum Hosts: The Museum at Roseberry, established in 1973, today consists of a group of 22 historic buildings. Some are original to Roseberry, but most are buildings saved from destruction and moved here from other parts of the valley. The goals of the museum are to preserve these buildings and artifacts which reflect the history and culture of early Valley County, and to educate about that history. Consider volunteering to welcome visitors to the museum! The museum needs hosts Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from May to September.

Researchers, Archivists, and Exhibit-Designers: Every Tuesday, from May to October, volunteers work in the Nell Tobias Research Center. These volunteers accept, research, and archive historical items donated by the public. Exhibits are designed here as well, and the group helps to research inquiries by researchers and questions about family heritage. The Research Center is the heart of the museum, and these are busy, fun and fulfilling days.

Work Parties: The continuing maintenance and restoration of the museum's historic buildings requires ongoing community involvement. We greatly appreciate the many local craftsmen step forward with their services to assist! Individuals without building skills are also welcome to come on board too to learn about the history of our area and help with its preservation. Restoration work parties work on small construction, restoration, or clean-up projects.

Docents: During each school year, LVPS hosts docent-led school groups who come to see and experience history at Roseberry. These field trips are high points for many of the children - we have lots of fun! In addition, special docent-led tours for adult groups are available by request.

Special Events Volunteers: Every year LVPS hosts special events like the Arts and Crafts Fair, Labor Day Ice Cream Social, and the Wednesday Night Concert Series. These are fun and lively events to volunteer for, and we have lots of spaces to fill. Some of these are great places to bring your talents - for instance, consider demonstrating your pioneer skills like spinning or woodworking, or just use your biceps serving big scoops of free ice cream, at the Ice Cream Social!

Community Outreach: LVPS works with a variety of community organizations, including Rotary Clubs, Lions, Elder Hostel, McCall Arts and Humanities Council and the Finnish Ladies Aid Society. The museum needs people to represent LVPS at these and other community functions.
